Are you an organised, detail-oriented finance professional looking for your next opportunity within a supportive team?

This is a great opportunity to join an established packaging business in Stockport, as an Accounts Assistant, supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you’ll play an important role in keeping financial records accurate, ensuring transactions are processed efficiently and helping the business maintain effective financial controls.

This is a varied, hands-on position offering the opportunity to build on your existing accounts experience, develop your skills and gain broader exposure to the finance function.

The role

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider business, your responsibilities will include:

Processing purchase invoices and credit notes, ensuring accurate coding, supporting documentation and approvals.

Maintaining customer and supplier accounts and allocating receipts and payments.

Completing bank reconciliations and investigating discrepancies or unreconciled transactions.

Supporting credit control by monitoring outstanding balances, issuing statements and following up overdue invoices.

Checking employee expenses and maintaining petty cash records.

Assisting with month-end activities, including ledger checks, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules.

Providing financial information for VAT returns, audits and management reporting.

Responding to customer and supplier queries professionally and helping resolve issues promptly.

Maintaining accurate, organised and confidential financial records.

Identifying opportunities to improve routine processes and supporting the wider finance team as required.

About you

You’ll be numerate, methodical and comfortable working with financial information, with a strong eye for detail and a proactive approach to getting things done.

We’re looking for someone with:

A good understanding of basic bookkeeping and purchase and sales ledger processes.

Strong numerical skills and a high level of accuracy.

Confidence using Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, sorting and filtering.

Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

Clear communication skills and a professional approach to customer and supplier queries.

The ability to work independently on routine tasks while contributing positively to a team.

A responsible approach to confidentiality and sensitive financial information.

Previous experience in an accounts, bookkeeping or finance administration role would be advantageous. AAT qualified, studying towards AAT, or equivalent practical experience would also be welcomed.

Experience with bank reconciliations, credit control, month-end processes or accounting software would be beneficial, although a willingness to learn is just as important.
