Thesis Title: Rural Credit, Debt and Inequality in the Basque Country (1700–1808)

The aim of this contract is to write a thesis on the concentration of wealth and the increase of inequality in the Basque Country from 1700 to 1808, based on sources from the Provincial Archive of Bizkaia (Bilbao) and the General Archive of Gipuzkoa (Tolosa)

The candidate must provide a detailed state of the art on inequality in Europe during Eary Modern times, conduct an exhaustive analysis of archival sources, reconstruct the credit networks in the Basque Country during the 18th century, assess the loss of property in rural Basque areas during that same period, and identify the conflicts associated with rising inequality toward the end of the Ancien Régime.

Bachelor's degree in History; master's degree or other degree that grants admission to a doctoral program.
