Successful candidates will be based in Radiology at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and must be willing to work across all Trust sites. As a Trainee Assistant Practitioner within Radiology, you will support the delivery of a safe, efficient and effective imaging service. Working under the supervision of a qualified radiographer, you will undertake radiographic procedures within the Assistant Practitioner (AP) Scope of Practice in General Radiography, helping ensure patients receive safe, accurate and timely examinations. You will support clinical sessions, provide administrative assistance and work collaboratively with the wider radiology team to maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery. Participation in extended working hours and a seven-day rotational shift pattern will be required.

  • Undertake radiographic examinations within the Assistant Practitioner (AP) Scope of Practice in General Radiography, under qualified radiographer supervision.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and use X-ray and image acquisition equipment correctly, both within and outside the department.
  • Comply with Ionising Radiation Regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Explain procedures clearly and maintain patient dignity, privacy, safety and high standards of care.
  • Assess patients' clinical needs and ability to cooperate, including elderly and trauma patients, to obtain diagnostic-quality images first time and minimise unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Assist radiographers, radiologists and sonographers during clinical sessions.
  • Support patient moving, handling, transfers, escorting, dressing and undressing, and safe storage of personal belongings.
  • Support patients' needs during examinations, including those relating to illness or trauma.
  • Ensure imaging requests are justified and authorised in line with departmental protocols, escalating concerns to a senior radiographer or consultant radiologist.
  • Perform an initial assessment of acquired images and promptly elevate urgent or concerning findings for appropriate clinical or radiological review before the patient leaves.
  • Liaise with wards and departments to maintain an efficient imaging service and prioritise work according to clinical urgency.
