Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital provides a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Group and Practice Locations

• Chatham-Kent Veterinary Hospital (Chatham, Ontario)
• Blenheim Veterinary Hospital (Blenheim, Ontario)
• South Ridge Veterinary Clinic (Ridgetown, Ontario)

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans and carry out diagnostics
• Perform dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage medical care of patients
• Practice communication with medical staff and clients

Most externship experiences last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in their 4th or clinic year are encouraged to apply.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel / living expense stipend. View stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
