Senior Estimator – Main Contractor

£75,000–£90,000 + car allowance and package | Stevenage, Hertfordshire | Main contractor

Projects: New build, refurbishment, alterations and fit-out schemes up to £20 million

A well-established regional main contractor near Stevenage is looking for a Senior Estimator to join its pre-construction team. The company delivers new build, refurbishment, alteration and fit-out projects across education, healthcare, community, industrial, leisure, retail and commercial sectors.

The Role

You will take responsibility for cost plans, tenders and estimates from initial enquiry through to submission. You will work closely with the design, commercial and operational teams, liaise with subcontractors and suppliers, and make sure each bid is accurate, competitive and submitted on time.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am–5.00pm, with one hour for lunch.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost plans, tenders and estimates
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documents
• Complete take-offs and build accurate project pricing
• Manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries
• Compare quotations and identify commercial risks and opportunities
• Work with design, commercial and operational teams throughout the tender process
• Support junior members of the pre-construction team when needed

About You

• Previous experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator for a main contractor
• Experience pricing new build, refurbishment or fit-out projects
• Good knowledge of construction methods, materials and tendering
• Confident completing take-offs, cost plans and subcontractor comparisons
• Organised and able to manage several tenders and deadlines
• Comfortable dealing with clients, consultants, subcontractors and colleagues

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The role may also suit candidates based in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, North London, Welwyn Garden City, Hitchin, Luton or surrounding areas.
